About myself
I am a philosopher with a strong attraction for water. Possibly because I was born and bred a few yards from the Danube river (which is neither blue nor romantic, but just magnificent) and live now again in the place where I grow up. As a matter of fact, as a youth I aimed to be a swimming champion but had to quit just when I was about to become one. So I took to philosophy, but more and more am I attracted by all kinds of other disciplines and their interactions. -- Presently I teach philosophy and cultural history at Gödöllô University, near Budapest, and I am in charge of a research project and of a working group in the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy in Budapest. -- The fact that I speak rather well my mother-tongue, Hungarian, but also German and French (which is the native language of my wife, now a Hungarian-French) got me to develop a kind of triple cultural and scientific identity. I was invited to do research for eleven months in the Institut für Sozialforschung, Frankfurt/Main. Also I have held visiting research professorships in Washington DC, in Paris and in La Plata (Argentina).


Present plans
My teaching project for the next years is to deliver lectures (in Hungarian as well as in other languages) on several aspects of the philosophical and cultural history of agrarian societies in Europe and on the cultural and linguistic dimensions of European integration. My main writing project for the next two or three years are two series of papers. The first one analyzing models and functions of modern western universities, and the second one dedicated to problems and dimensions of the society of communication.
